SO…WHAT IS THE HEALTH-IS-VITAL RISK EQUALISATION
FUND?

1. Health is Vital is a Risk Equalization Fund, registered and approved
by NAMFISA as a Friendly Society (not for profit) in January 2006.

2. Is governed by an independent Board of Trustees comprised of
medical aid schemes, medical aid administrators, employer groups
and is protected by NAMFISA and representatives of development
    partners / donors.

3. A platform where medical aid funds and employer groups can
transfer the risk of HIV/AIDS, to reduce the cost impact on individual
    and smaller risk pools.

4. Is especially designed to accommodate low/middle income employed
groups, who previously had no access to conventional medical aid
products, by offering basic general healthcare benefits for the
    employed, but medically uninsured workforce.

5. A portal, providing medical schemes a standard benefit for the
treatment of HIV/AIDS, to all participating members irrespective of
age, income or health status in return for a minimal monthly
    premium.

6. Offers a secured and confidential healthcare management
environment, applying standard treatment protocols for the optimum
management of HIV/AIDS and related costs.

7. Has the potential to, in future, expand the platform of industry risk
equalisation to other chronic conditions which are key cost drivers of
    individual medical aid funds.
